The 3^rd annual Akron Bike Week runs September 3-12. Held every September to promote biking as an alternative form of transportation. While most of the events are recreational, the City is committed to supporting bicycling and Bike Week is a fun way to get people out on their bikes by sponsoring a week worth of events.

100 or 60 or 38 miles through gently rolling countryside. West of Medina is a great route.  Lots of miles on small roads. Breakfast in New London or Spencer. Start at Akron General Wellness Center, west parking lot Montrose location. Free ride. Print and bring your own map from link provided.

New London Century

This is a one hundred mile ride around Medina and into northern Wayne County. The ride starts at Plaza 71 on Rt. 18, just east of I-71, then heads to Brunswick, a rest stop in Valley City, breakfast in Litchfield, ice cream in West Salem, a beautiful ride through the Cedar and Clear Creek Valleys, followed by lunch in Lodi, more ice cream in Seville and Wadsworth, then back to the start. A challenging, fun and do-able ride. Bring money or food for it’s totally Unsupported, but maps are provided.

Newton Falls. North East Ohio Century is cycling at its best! Join 600 enthusiastic cyclists on a personal century challenge through beautiful Amish farmland in one of Ohio’s most picturesque areas. NEOC has a route for everyone! Pick a 35 mile, 62 mile “metric century” or 100 mile “century” route. All routes are scenic flat to rolling terrain with a few hills-great for your longest ride or your fastest century. Sag wagons will patrol all the routes for assistance throughout the day. Snacks and lunch? NEOC is famous for its delicious lunches AND homemade cookies at the snack stops

This is a free ride of about 45 miles around north-central Ohio. A map is provided, but NO other services are provided. NO sag wagon, NO snack stops, NO closed course, NO first aid cars, NO food. Get the idea? Then come prepared! The riders usually stop at the Malabar Inn for lunch. This ride is an old-fashioned self-sufficient ride where riders are expected to be prepared to handle any problem themselves. The ride goes through the Mohican State Forest and past Malabar Farm. THIS IS A HILLY RIDE. MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN SHAPE TO HANDLE THE HILLS.  BE PREPARED TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF IF YOU COME TO THIS RIDE! Attendance is usually between 5 and 20 depending on the weather. You will be riding on public roads that day and there is no liability at all assumed by anyone assisting with this ride. Be prepared, ride safely, and enjoy the day

32nd Annual FALL-N-LEAF ride.  Ride starts in Bellville, Ohio, traveling through Richland and Knox counties with some challenging hills.  The Richland B & O trail is also part of this ride.  We have hot sandwiches and full SAG support. This is a great late cycling season tour with plenty of fall colors to enjoy.  Entry form online:

Enjoy the beautiful fall scenery, cool weather, apple cider and much more!! FFF(FFFF) has been an annual FREE event since 1976. The route is 50 miles with a 28 mile cutoff. included is a map, complimentary cider stop, good company, and places to buy food along the route. FFF(FFFF) starts at the Medina Square. A city ordinance forbids riding on the sidewalks at the square.

An OBF Calendar supporting ride and the traditional finish of the touring season in NE Ohio. A full service ride with marked route, map, 3 food stops for the metric and one for the 1/2 metric and SAG. The metric route is flat to rolling, while the 1/2 metric is mostly flat.  Of course, there’s still Mill Hollow with it’s 12½% (average) grade climb! The ride starts from Oberlin on the first Sunday of November.

A Bi-Cycling Dandy Excuse For Getting Hibernated In January has been an annual event since 1977. The route is set up with 2, 12, and 24 mile loops with Stop-N-Go convenience stores along the way. To be comfortable, you must be prepared for the weather conditions that day! The ride is held regardless of the weather. Personalized participation certificates will be for sale at cost.  Starts at the Medina Square.

A freebie 25, 50 & 62 mile ride in mid April to warm you up for the spring centuries.  Ride AFROST and go home and watch the Paris Roubaix as they’re usually on the same day.  The ride starts in Amherst and travels south, mostly in Lorain County.  The terrain is, for the most part, flat.  There are towns on the route to get a bite to eat and fill your water bottle.  The weather tends to be on the cool side and rain is always a possibility.  There’s even a possibility of a little snow!

Start your biking season off with this beautiful ride through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The ride is rolling and hilly on longer routes through scenic and historic sites. SICCO (Pronounced Sick-O) stands for Spring In Columbiana County Ohio. The route is a flat to rolling 35 mile loop through small towns and beautiful countryside including the Little Beaver Creek Bikeway. There is a snack stop at the gazebo in historic downtown Lisbon. At the end of the 35 mile loop, you will get a delicious Pizza Hut lunch. After refueling, try the optional rolling 28 mile loop for a total of 63 miles.

Get the idea? Then come prepared! The route does go through a couple of cities where food may be purchased if you need it. This ride is an old-fashioned self-sufficient ride where riders are expected to be prepared to handle any problem themselves.

Peninsula 12-15 miles – Century Cycles and the Medina County Bicycle Club are inviting people to join them in a Ride of Silence in Peninsula, Ohio. That evening, Rides of Silence will be taking place in Cleveland and around the world to honor those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways and to raise awareness of cyclists’ legal rights to share the road with motorists.   Ride of Silence Peninsula

Cleveland 8-15 miles - Riders will assemble in two locations (downtown near Cleveland City Hall) and the Heights neighborhoods (at Whole Foods Market at the intersection of Cedar and Warrensville Center Rds). 8th Annual Bike Around the Bay – Join hundreds of tri-state bicyclists on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at the Intermodal Transportation Center on the Bayfront Parkway in Erie, Pa.  Bike 10 miles – Town Tour, especially designed for families and less experienced riders; 30 miles – Bay Tour, for casual rider or 50 miles – Endurance Tour, for seasoned riders.  All riders bike along Presque Isle Bay and Lake Erie. All rides begin and end at the Intermodal Transportation Center on the Bayfront Parkway, Erie, Pa.

The 15^th No Frills Tandem Weekend, Seville, OH. has 3 great Tandem Rides. You can ride just one day, two days, or all three days. The ride on Fri. May 28th is 20 miles of gently rolling terrain. We will stop at a local restaurant after the ride. On Sat. May 29th there are two choices, 38 or 56 miles. This is a great ride that goes through beautiful Overton Valley. We will stop at a restaurant 2/3 through the ride. On Sun. May 30th there are two choices, 32 or 47 miles. The ride goes through historic Rouges Hollow and is also a very good tandem route. We will stop in Canal Fulton half way though the ride to have a late breakfast. Cost: $2 per tandem team will cover all 3 rides.  Mark and Joyce Lange will be ride directors again this year.

This is a freebie century through southern Lorain and northern Ashland Counties on Memorial Day weekend.  The route takes us from Oberlin through some rolling Amish countryside to Jeromesville and on to Ashland.  From there, it’s a breeze back home via route 511.  For those who think 50 miles or so is enough, there’s a cutoff at Ashland County Road 500 to accommodate you.

This scenic ride takes place in the heart of Northeast Ohio’s Amish countryside, and organizers expect up to 700 people to participate. You will start, finish and have lunch at the Geauga County Historical Society facilities, just off the SE corner of the town square in Burton, Ohio. Route options include 25, 50 and 62 mile loops with an optional 38 mile loop for those who want to complete a full century. Maps detailing the routes are provided, and roads will be well marked.

Rail ‘n Trail and Road Route Ramble

The 210+ members of the Akron Bicycle Club invite you to enjoy beautiful northeast Ohio as you ride our thirty-fourth annual Absolutely Beautiful Country Ride. The ride will be held Sunday, July 10, 2010, starting at Medina Achievment Center on Windfall Rd, Medina County. This ride attracts over two hundred riders of all ages and riding abilities. Proceeds from this ride assist the Club in its mission of teaching safe bicycling.

17th Eddy’s Bike Shop Sweet Corn Challenge in Richfield. Choose 10, 25, 50 or 100 miles, moderate route to monster hills.  Live music at the finish with lunch of pulled barbecued pork, corn on the cob and watermelon. Century has a Subway lunch and buffet dinner at the Taverne of Richfield. Massages. Drawing for a free bike. Free sweet corn to take home. Full service tour with challenging routes and snack stops. Rider limit 2,500.

A freebie ride with map.  This early August ride from Oberlin features 30, 52 and 70 mile routes.   The 30 mile route will travel  into Huron County for a bit then back to Lorain County and go through Wellington  where you can get a snack.  The 52 route will  travel through Fitchville and New London in Huron County.  The 70 mile route will travel to the Huron County towns of Fitchville, Savannah, Nova and maybe a couple I’ve forgotten.  These communities along the route have places to obtain food.  For the most part, the route is fairly flat.  Even though there may be towns, it’s a good idea to take a snack bar or two, just in case … and plenty of water!

ROAST Your Buns

The 4th annual 14 Hill Ride is August 7th this year and will feature a Metric Century option new for 2010.  Both course will weave in and out of the scenic Cuyahoga Valley National Park and will pose a challenge for all level of cyclist. The Akron Bicycle Club Presents the 36th annual Roscoe Ramble ride, “One of the most beautiful and scenic rides in Ohio”, this full-service tour covers either 55 or 75 miles of rolling hills per day.  Visits Central Ohio’s unspoiled Amish countryside. This one day ride, on Saturday, August 8, starts just off the circle in LaGrange, Ohio, at Lions Park. LaGrange is located about 30 miles west of Cleveland, at the junction of routes 301 and 303. The terrain in this area is mostly flat with some gently rolling areas and a couple of good short climbers. This is more than an ordinary bike ride. Routes of 35, 65, 100. riders will go to a variety ofwineries – 4 total this year. Optional tee shirt, cookout and souvenir wine bag. Terrain is mostly flat with a few rollers on the longer routes. More hills on 100. This is a great ride, very sociable.Rider limit is 500.. Surprised that our area might have wineries? Just wait until you try some of these elixirs. After your tour join us in our fabulous cookout prepared by award-winning master chefs. We’ll offer you a feast to remember with chicken, bratwurst, salads, fresh locally grown corn on the cob and tales of the ride from your day on the road.
